One Mum's Story

Baby Sign Language

In Activities, Learning on October 5, 2011 at 3:35 pm

We started working with Evan and his sign language when he was quite small. He’s really getting the hang of it and using the words at the same time now. He’s 14 months and we’re introducing new signs as he starts talking more. It has really helped us a lot. And helped to relieve frustration on his part when he wants to go upstairs to the playroom or he wants more of something.

The key to anything is consistency and sign language is no different. We try to use the signs all the time too so he sees us communicating the same way. I do find myself signing at work from time to time too and have to smile.

We borrowed a signing book from a friend, Baby Signing for Dummies, and truly was a great starter book. There are only a few main signs that we focused on and this one covered them all.

Happy communicating with your baby, we sure do enjoy it with Evan!
