Evan’s First Sock Monkey Birthday

In First Birthday Party, Sock Monkey Birthday on July 22, 2011 at 10:23 pm

So Evan’s first year is coming to a close and I cannot believe where the last year went. There have been so many great moments that I can’t even fathom the amazing experiences that I have in store for me in the years to come.

Our theme for Evan’s first birthday party was Sock Monkey’s. We really made this party a Sock Monkey extravaganza. We started by customizing the food to include Banana Nut Cheerios for the little ones, banana pudding and mac and cheese cupcakes (we already had 3 desserts so we thought a twist on the traditional would be a fun addition). We added a snow cone machine to make red snow cones and a cotton candy machine that made blue cotton candy. The custom fabric with little Sock Monkey’s made for perfect table runners.

For the really little ones I made pillows with the Sock Monkey fabric and ordered Sock Monkey appliqués from Big Black Dog Designs and ironed them on to brown pillows to bring in the 3rd color (Blue, Red and Brown), these were all on a red blanket on the floor for the little ones to play safely.

For the older guests we had a coloring station where I took modified designs from Lovely Photo Cards and made them in to black and white line art for them to color (all with the help of a designer friend of mine). We added “To: Evan” at the top and “From: [blank]” at the bottom so they could fill in their name. We had a little mini table and chairs for them to sit at too which I think they all like since it was “kid-sized”.

We had another fun activity for the older ones, paper Sock Monkey puppets. I painstakingly (with the help of a friend of mine and my dad) cut out all of the pieces that made up his face and the kids were to put them together. They were very cute complete with pom poms for their hats and googly eyes.

We were lucky that the clubhouse that I rented had pool tables and a foosball table for the adults to play with but I think we wore them all out with the kids activities!

Evan’s 3 tier banana, strawberry and chocolate Sock Monkey cake was made by his Great-Aunty Linda. She makes amazing fondant cakes and she didn’t disappoint. She made a smaller version with polka-dots for him with a fondant 1 in the middle. We had candles for each of the letters of his name E-V-A-N and it was perfect.

And now for the outfits. I was a little worried because it didn’t arrive until the day before the party but it did arrive and was perfect. Evan started the party in white shorts and a very cool blue shirt, rolled up sleeves and all complete with a blue driver hat. Then before cake time we changed into his custom made birthday shirt lovingly designed by Mimi Babies. And a stylish hat made by Freckle Bug, Lauren is a close friend of mine and spoiled him with this custom made hat. He looked the part that’s for sure.

As a Thank You to all of our guests we created a treat table. I collected jars during the party planning and filled them with red or brown candy. Each jar was a different size and was wrapped in a coordinating ribbon. Brown Chinese to-go boxes complete with custom Thank You for Swinging By My Party sickers were available for our guests to fill up. Giant lolli-pops, original and chocolate Twislers, Whoppers, Twix, Milky Way and Snickers to name a few.

Enjoy these pictures of the party with all the painstaking details that were a must to make his first birthday special. I have to say that Mummy and Daddy had an amazing time too so it wasn’t just for him!
